IN AN exciting feat for the Bass Coast region both Fitzroy Caulfield Grantville Rifle Range and Wonthaggi Gun Club have received approved funding from the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions as part of the Shooting Sports Facilities Program Round Five.

Fitzroy Caulfield  Grantville Rifle Club

A team effort since the range’s establishment in 1990, news of the recent grant funding was very much welcomed by club members young and old alike.

“The hard work starts now,” Club President, Brad Steer smiled.

“There is no doubt the new all abilities facilities will significantly take our club forward, and probably make the range one of, if not, the premier rifle range in South East Victoria.

“Over the years the rifle club has done a fair bit in the community space and our focus is to continue to do that and have a wide range of people we can open our doors to.”

What started four years ago with the application for a new clubhouse, the funding will level and resurface the shooting mounds, implement five new shotmaker electronic targets, see to the installation of amenities at the site alongside CCTV security systems and most importantly, build a new clubhouse complete with disabled access and toilet.

“Over the years we have hosted the Shoot 4 Autism and provided a safe environment for children with autism to come down and try the sport, and we have regularly hosted Bass Coast Specialist School. We have welcomed people of all abilities to come down and experience the sport and the new facilities will make it more enjoyable for all.

“It’s been a massive team effort from everyone involved building on great work from previous committees.

“We want to encourage the sport across the greater population and build facilities for the future that a lot more people can enjoy.

“We’re excited that we will also be able to offer new programs to support people of all abilities to come down and participate.”

The build and improvements will take place for FCGRC over the next two years.

Wonthaggi Gun Club

Down the road Wonthaggi Gun Club was also one of the lucky recipients with funding approved for new grounds and clubrooms, replacing the subpar facilities on Cape Paterson Road.

“A big thank you to the committee and all their hard work at Wonthaggi Gun Club, without them we wouldn’t have a club,” Club President, Stuart Allen explained.

“There is always space for new members too with our come and try open on a Thursday night from 5pm.

“The new grounds and club rooms will enable us to include all clay target disciplines and be suitable for all our shooters.

“It’s all about the shooters and we couldn’t be happier.”

The announcement is welcomed by club members with many hours put into the application by Stuart and supported by the committee.

Wonthaggi Gun Club will be hosting their annual Christmas Competition Shoot on December 10 with shooters welcome to participate and members of the public welcome to come and watch.
